CARE of South Bend, IN - Baby Girl’s Story

Community Involvement General

A rescue dog named Baby Girl from the SBACC

Baby Girl arrived at South Bend Animal Care and Control (SBACC) after her owner had died. Sadly, it appeared that she had lived a life of neglect. In addition to a very poor physical appearance, Baby Girl had a number of health issues, not the least of which was an advanced case of heartworm. However, through the matted coat and the labored breathing, the team at SBACC could see that Baby Girl was a diamond in the rough.

When animals with extreme medical needs are taken in by SBACC, the shelter staff is often faced with making difficult decisions. Because the funds needed to pay for expensive surgeries and treatments are simply not available, the animals have traditionally been euthanized. Many of these animals would make wonderful, loving pets if only they had access to the medical treatment they need.

That’s where CARE of South Bend and the Hope and Second Chances Veterinary Fund (HSCVF) comes in. The HSCVF was created to give these animals the second chances they deserve. By paying for medical treatment that otherwise would not be available to them, the Fund is saving lives that in the past would have been lost. Administered by CARE of South Bend (CARE), the HSCVF pays for lifesaving medical treatment for sick and injured animals at SBACC. These animals get the veterinary care they need to get back on their feet, and then are put up for adoption when they are healthy enough to be placed into a permanent home.

Over the years, hundreds of animals at SBACC have received medical treatment paid for by CARE. That's why the "Share4Care" campaign has been so important to all of us at the Boughter Law Office. Not only are we able to donate $2000, but we were also able to raise awareness about the needs of this incredible organization located right here in South Bend.

Through the HSCVF, Baby Girl received the medical care she needed to make a complete recovery. She was soon adopted by a wonderful family and is now living happily ever after with her Labrador brother, Bo.  All of us at the Boughter Law Office are so glad that the money we donate to CARE is helping to give hope and a second chance to dogs and cats, just like Baby Girl. Thanks to each of our Facebook followers for helping us reach our goal of 1000 likes!

How Do Weather Events Impact Roads?

When winter hits in Indiana, we all know how downhill road conditions can go. The weather has more impact on our daily lives than we tend to realize—at least until the air turns cold, precipitation turns snowy, and we hit that first “black ice” patch of the season. Staying safe on the roads during the sometimes treacherous winter months really comes down to being prepared for what could happen. It’s important to at least be aware of the worst case scenarios so, if and when they do happen,...

Strange Halloween Law Suits

The Halloween season has a way of bringing out a new round of personal injury cases – ones with an entirely different, somewhat-spooky nature. With kids and adults alike dressed in costumes, pretending to be masked vigilantes or mystical characters, it can be very difficult to know what’s real and what isn’t. It can also make it more difficult to determine whether or not a situation is safe. We’d like to encourage you to stay safe this Halloween as you’re out trick-or-treating or at a...
