Keep Indiana Construction Crews Safe

General Practice Areas Automobile Accidents Construction Accidents

Several construction workers are repairing the road on the highway.

When it comes to Indiana roads, the Summer season might as well be named "Construction Season" with all of the road work that happens. The warmer weather and longer days give construction crews plenty of hours to treat distressed, unstable roadway conditions. Though the construction crew workers are surrounded by bright orange traffic cones, posted warning signs, and the reflective safety vests they are required to wear, the risk of an injury is still great. With this week being Work Zone Awareness Week, we want to do our part to ensure the safety of the men and women who work hard to repair our Indiana roads.

According to Nichole Thomas, a spokeswoman for INDOT's Fort Wayne District, "Most traffic fatalities that happen in a work zone happen on roads with a speed limit over 50 mph." The challenge isn't necessarily getting construction crew workers to make safe choices - they understand the risk and take appropriate safety measures. The challenge is getting drivers on the roads to reduce their speeds and navigate with caution as they approach a construction zone. Believe it or not, "4 out of 5 people killed in work zone crashes are drivers, not workers," (Thomas).

The risk is too great to not pay attention to the road - especially in a construction zone. We urge drivers to slow down, put away cell phones, and focus on the cars ahead of you. Stop-and-go traffic can be tiresome and frustrating, but paying attention could save your life. Construction accidents, whether on the road or elsewhere, can be extremely damaging to someone's quality of life. Our office has recovered millions on behalf of those involved in construction accidents, and we can do the same for you and your loved ones if you are in need of a construction accident attorney.
